A Step By Step Guide For Teen Skincare

Reaching puberty means that your body is going through a lot of changes currently especially hormonal and skin changes. Therefore, if you want to ensure that your skin remains flawless as you step into your adulthood, it is important to maintain a healthy teen skincare routine. So here is all you need to know to manage the skincare routine for teens.

Common Skin Problems Teenagers Face

Acne, blackheads and oily skin are amongst the most prominent problems that teens go through. Teens essentially go through puberty and there are such massive levels of change in the hormones. These surges lead to enlargement of the oil glands, making teen skin oily and creating large pores and blackheads.

Teen Acne:

Like mentioned before, as oil glands become more stimulated due to the increase of hormone levels in your body, teenagers are more prone to get acne. It can also be caused due to the presence of excess bacteria, dead skin cells and excess sebum in the pores causing inflammation then acne.

Oily Skin:

The type of skin you will have after or during puberty is also somewhat dependent on your genetics but hormonal changes can also cause excess oil production. Your oily skin can also be attributed to excess sweating and the dirt accumulated in your pores then can cause problems like blackheads.

Warts & Other Skin Problems:

During puberty, skin tends to be a little more dry and itchy giving rise to common skin problems like eczema or dermatitis. Teens are percitible to injuries than any other person so infections like warts are more common in them. These fleshy, dark lumps can grow underneath the fingernails or the back of your hand.

Step By Step Skincare Routine For Teenage Girl

Good skin is very crucial even when you are a teen so that you carry the same well into your adult life. But the start of that begins with maintaining a good skincare routine and here are a few steps in achieving that:

Use A Gentle Cleanser:

Your skin is still quite fresh and tender so using a harsh face wash or cleanser might ruin it. Therefore, use a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type and doesn’t cause irritation or redness. Specifically, avoid using soaps as it can irritate the pores and disrupt your pimples and acne.

If you have oily or combination skin, use a gentle cleanser that has salicylic acid to control the production of excess oil or sebum. These cleansers help to dissolve dirt and oil thus unclogging the pores. But it is recommended to not scrub your face harshly and use gentle cleansing motion.

Exfoliate Once A Week:

To avoid clogged pores and blackheads, it is important that you exfoliate at least once a week. Look for products that contain clay as it has natural antiseptic and astringent properties. As a teenager, you can also try homemade scrubs made from sugar and honey. But if your acne and skin problems are severe, you can also use AHAs and BHAs to deep clean your pores.

Treatment And Protection:

Acne-prone skin needs treatment as soon as possible. The way to treat teen acne is to use sulphur cleansers and masks to dry out your skin. Using a toner and medicated acne gel can also work alongside benzoyl peroxide face washes, creams, gels etc.

To protect the tender and gentle skin of teens, use a broad spectrum moisturising sunscreen containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide with an SPF of more than 30. Using sunblock also helps to keep your acne breakouts from turning dark. Additionally, make sure if you wear makeup, to use only clean brushes since unclean ones are a ground for bacterias that can cause acne.

Choosing A Right Night Care Routine:

A nighttime skincare routine is the most crucial regimen for your teens. Using the right products at this point can give your skin a whole night’s time to repair and rejuvenate. Make sure your face is clean of all its dirt, use a toner, a treatment cream and then a moisturiser before your bedtime so that your skin is always on point.

Eating Right:

Choosing a healthy lifestyle may not immediately help you get rid of all your problems because of the hormonal changes going on in your body but it will definitely help you in the long run. Since your skin’s health is directly dependent on what you eat and how you live, make sure you exercise, meditate, eat healthy and have plenty of water.

If we learn to take care of our skin right from the start, especially our teens since these are our most tough years, we can step into our adulthood with a healthy glowing skin. We hope you take our advice seriously and take care of your skin.
